Mohammad Nasim Parwana

(1923-1981)

Hajji Mohammad Nasim Parwana, son of the late Hajji Sardar Mahmood Khan Ghori, was a distinguished scholar, historian, and custodian of Ghur's cultural heritage. Born in 1923 in the village of Neeli, Taywara District of Ghur Province, he received his early education in Kabul during the reign of King Amanullah Khan and later pursued advanced Islamic sciences, including jurisprudence (fiqh), theology, and literature under his father's guidance.

Throughout his life, Parwana served in key governmental roles across Kabul, Herat, Badghis, and Ghur provinces. Between 1960 and 1962, he represented Ghur as First Secretary of the Judicial Committee in Afghanistan's 11th National Assembly (Loya Jirga) under Dr. Abdul Zahir's presidency. He also contributed as a supervisory member of Afghanistan's Banknote Commission and as an official at the State Literary Society.

A man of profound integrity and piety, Parwana was revered for his intellectual contributions and artistic talents. Trained by his elder brother, Ustad Mohammad Saeed Mash'al, he excelled in calligraphy, miniature painting, and manuscript preservation. His legacy includes:

Manuscripts: Annotated copies of Rumi's Masnavi, Hussaini's Tafsir, and Wonders of Intellect.

Original Works: Forty Hadith, The Candle and the Moth (poetry), and genealogical studies of the Shansabani dynasty.

Archival Collections: Land deeds, royal decrees (e.g., from Nader Shah and Mahmud Shah), and tribal documents from Logar, Behsud, and Daizangi.

Despite failing health, he dedicated his final years to documenting Ghur's history before passing away in May 1981. His archives, now curated by the Parwana family, offer invaluable insights into Afghanistan's cultural and political history.
